Practical Weaponry [Wednesday, Period Four]

"Good afternoon," Bond addressed his assembled class. "This class is Practical Weaponry, and it's more or less exactly that. Each week I will be presenting a scenario here in the Danger Shop, and your job will be to find a way to survive it using either methods that I will have discussed with you beforehand, or by improvising something on your own. I will be demonstrating the use of ranged, and unranged conventional weapons, as well as showing you ways to improvise weaponry from seemingly innocuous everyday items. If anyone has a problem with this, the door is over there."

He paused before continuing. "Unlike certain of your other teacher, I won't be making you wear uniforms, but I would advise you to wear comfortable clothing that allows you freedom of movement."

"Now, onto the matter of teaching assistants." One day Bond would ask for volunteers, or even interest in being his TA. This was not that day. "Reese, Hathaway, congratulations."

"Since it's our first week, we'll just stick to introductions. I want your names, class, what weapons experience you have, and how you personally would handle the zombie apocalyspe," Bond said. He pointed at a random student. "You first."

Karla listened to everyone's explanations of their zombie-defense plan before giving her own. Mostly because she hadn't been entirely sure what they are. From that, however, and the band at Caritas, she was leaning towards and evil version of the demon-dead from home.

"I'm Karla, freshman," she said when it was her turn. "I have very little physical training, though I am being taught knife-fighting and pistols now. Since I've only been doing that for a few weeks, however, I consider myself almost an amateur at either. However, I wear a Sapphire Jewel and am a Black Widow. I have Craft and a lot of it, my shields can stand up to many different kinds of guns," she flashed a grin at Triela, "and I can throw energy blasts for a really long time. I'm an expert in poisons, I can neutralize a lot of them, and I have this." She held out her hand and extended her serpent's tooth. "It's very venomous," she said quietly. "It can kill a man." She did not add that she was speaking from experience.

"As for zombies, I wouldn't light them on fire," she continued thoughtfully. "They are dead, cannot feel pain, and the fire would need to be very hot in order to burn them to ash. In that time, unless they were otherwise incapacitated, they could wander around, setting other things on fire, thus giving us another thing to worry about. I would shield the civilian populace as best I could, try to corral the zombies into one location, airwalk to a position above them and either incinerate them with Craft, or blast them in the head, since everyone agrees that that is the best way to kill one of the creatures. With any luck, I'll have friends around who are proficient in other ways of killing," another grin for Triela and Dinah "and as long as they were shielded, it meant that I wouldn't be responsible for killing all of the creatures. As long as I ration my power carefully, I should have enough strength to last for several hours."

"I was wondering when someone would point out that flaw in the kill it with fire option," Bond said. Because someone who'd blown up an embassy once was in a position to talk about property damage. "Thank you, Karla."

"There was a horrific fire at a landen barn party when I was younger. I was an apprentice Healer at the time," Karla explained quietly. "It's not something you forget."
